Our Technology
Solar technology has been utilized for over 30 years! Silicon Solar has introduced new ways to incorporate these technologies into everyday practical applications. Find below a brief overview of the core technologies which we utilize across our diverse network of products.
Solar Electric Technology: (Photovoltaic)
Silicon Solar incorporates the latest in commercial solar electric technology including both thin-film and mono-crystalline solar cell types. Using the power of the sun, these core technologies supply the power required to light up everything from small landscape lights to large billboard lighting systems.
Example of this technology includes integration into solar battery chargers, water fountains and landscape lights. The technology is also incorporated in its basic form for solar panels for use in providing power for commercial and residential grid-tie and off grid solar electric systems. Combined with solar energy incentives and applications which require solar technology, photovoltaics have become a stable investment in the alternative energy industry. For more information on incentives and residential / commercial systems, please contact our sales department.
Core Technology:
Crystalline solar cells have been utilized in the commercial industry for the longest period of time and manufacturing through an expensive ingot growing process. As technologies have evolved and additional demand has attracted capital investment into the renewable energy industry, thin-film solar cells and string ribbon cells have been utilized to decrease the cost of manufacturing and overall price per watt. Amorphous silicon (a-Si), cadmium telluride (CdTe) and copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) are typically materials used in manufacturing these low cost alternatives to crystalline based solar cells. Silicon Solar utilizes different technologies in our integrated products depending on the products application and economic feasibility analysis.

hi have a look on this site::::

http://www.solio.com/charger/

Solar Cell Phone and Battery Charger
6V/12V Solar power source

http://windupradio.com/isun.htm

Sun™ is a portable, modular solar DC electricity generator with approx. 2 watts of power output, 50% more than any comparable devices on the global market. It can charge a MP3 player, or keep the GPS at full power, all thanks to it’s reliable solar panels.
iSun™
The iSun™ is for the business / city type. The iSun™ comes with 7 plugs that fits in most electronics found on the market today: Discman, GPS, MP3 player, Walkman and cell phones.
The iSun™ is for the outdoors person. The one who’s always on the go. The one who needs power when there’s none to be found. Now, you can take longer trips with no fear of your GPS going dead.

iSun™ Accessories (included)

The iSun™ portable solar powered battery / cell phone charger is the most complete solar charger for small electronic appliances on the market today. It comes with plugging accessories that enable you to operate over 90% of all small electronic appliances.
As shown the accessories that are included with the iSun™ are: a female socket adapter cable, 2 suction caps (to attach the iSun™ to a window), a power cable, a 2.5mm male adapter, a 3.5mm male adapter, a 5.5×2.5mm female adapter, a 5.5×2.1mm female adapter, a 5.0×2.1mm female adapter, a 4.0×1.7mm female adapter and a 3.5×1.4mm female adapter.
The iSun™ is compatible with most small electronics that can be connected with its included adapters. GPS, PDA and cell phone users that have a cigarette adapter plug (not included) can connect to the iSun™ directly through its female socket adapter cable.
Accessories (optional)
iSun™ – BattPak™

The iSun™ project began in 1999 with research in the market requirements for renewable portable power. Close to 1000 man-hours were spent researching various portable electronics and consumer’s desires in regards to portable power.
With its universal “plug n’play” connection socket, iSun™ can be attached to power / recharge / trickle-charge batteries for personal electronics (e.g. cellular phones, PDA, laptops, walkman, mp3 players), automotive accessories, leisure (e.g. camping)
and other consumer applications with direct connections or using product-specific cables. iSun’s replicator docking mechanism means that power can also be boosted by daisy chaining units together, which results in more power.
The iSun™ and iSun™ Sport solar chargers convert sunlight into an electrical current. How? Light particles (photons) penetrate the solar cell causing electrons to become agitated. This results in the flow of direct current (DC) electricity. The more sunshine, the more power the iSun™ will produce.
The iSun™ unit can be used in all sunny conditions. Naturally, the brightest conditions will yield better charging output.

The BattPak™ acts as a 6V/12V power source, a AAA/AA NiCad or NiMh battery recharger, and a power charger for portable electronics which feature their own internal rechargeable batteries.

The BattPak™ slides under the iSun™ into its docking bay permitting the portable power user to complete power independence, day or night, wherever they may be. The BattPak will act as a 6V/12V power source, a AAA/AA NiCad or NiMh battery recharger, and a power charger for portable electronics which feature their own internal rechargeable batteries.
Warranty
iSun™ comes with a 1 year warranty. This warranty is granted on the power output. This protection gives you assurance that the unit will produce a minimum 80 percent of its original power rating. Original proof of purchase is required. Some states do not allow exclusion or limitation of accidental or consequential losses so the exclusions may not apply to the purchase. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may have other rights which vary from one state (or province) to another.

Easy as 1, 2, 3.
1) Of the 7 adapter plugs included with iSun™, choose the plug that best fits your electronic’s power input and connect it to the iSun power cable.

2) Remove the cap on the right side of the iSun™ and connect the power cable to the iSun™ output.

3) Position the iSun™ towards the sun. Now, you are ready to go and power up anywhere at anytime.
Need more power?
Just add another iSun™, and another, and another…
The iSun™ can operate small electronic appliances that require less than 2 watts. Multiple iSun™ units connected together can operate any small electronic appliances that require more than 2 watts.

Turn Your Blackberry into a GPS Pedometer/Speedometer

I’m in love. Imagine being able to view your walking or running speed and distance and see full-color maps of where you’re going — all on the cell phone you’re already carrying on your walk! Last week, reader Elwing asked in our discussion forum about an application that turns your Motorola smart phone or Blackberry into a GPS pedometer/speedometer and workout tracker. I read that about 8 am on Saturday and zipped over to the AllSportGPS web site. Within minutes I was able to easily download and install the application on my Blackberry and head out for a walk. It took longer to shower and put on my shoes than to do the whole transaction. The interface on my cell phone was simple and completely intuitive. Select Walking, wait a few seconds for the GPS to connect to the GPS satellites, select Start and off you go.
What do you get? A constant readout of your current speed and average speed for the session, plus accurate distance, plus a map of where you are and where you might be going! And when you’re done, it automatically transmits it to a web site where it is saved for posterity, and you can choose to keep it private or share it with the world. But wait, there’s more! A graph of your speed throughout the workout! An elevation profile for your workout so you can brag about the steep hills! A map of it all – and since it uses Google Maps, you can select a street view, satellite view, or topographic view.
What makes this system unique compared to the Garmin Forerunner series or the Timex Speed+Distance GPS monitors is the ease of use, the great maps, and the really cool info you can view both on your smart phone and on the web site. Now for the price. A year of service for a Blackberry is the same as the cost of a really good pedometer, $39.99. It’s the best deal I’ve found all year! Consider that the Timex or Garmin systems are well over $100 and you would have to juggle just one more gadget. You’ve already bought the cell phone, why not make it do double duty?
Here’s a walk I took on the weekend.. I even added a photo highlight! Next time, I’ll have to use the interval program to start working on my speed. Another plus of the Trimble Outdoors web site is that you can draw a route using their online map editor and then download it to your phone. I also recreated the route we walked a previous Sunday. Those were some hills! If you have a Motorola smart phone or a Blackberry, I can heartily recommend AllSportGPS.

cellphone battery life can be extended
Leading non-volatile memory maker Catalyst Semiconductor Inc. announces its first chip in a new family of patent-pending Quad-Mode adaptive fractional charge pumps. Designed with Catalyst’s Quad-Mode switching architecture, CAT3636 is capable of driving up to six white/color LEDs, typically used in most of today’s high-end cellphones.
The Quad-mode charge pump architecture boasts high efficiency levels associated with inductor-based LED drivers. In a recent interview with EE Times-Asia, Scott Brown, VP of marketing for Catalyst Semiconductor, revealed that most of the company’s potential customers are choosing to use charge pump-based LED drivers. “Inductor-based solutions are more efficient, but they require inductors, which have larger profiles and generate EMI,” he said.
Most charge pump LED drivers today offer only three modes of operation corresponding to the ratio of the output voltage to the input voltage: 1x, 1.5x and 2x. Brown blames this on manufacturers’ reluctance “to add in more capacitors, have higher pin counts and increase board space, which is always at a premium.”
CAT3636′s Quad-Mode switching architecture offers a fourth mode of operation, 1.33x, which reduces the input switching currents seen at the battery, thus reducing overall supply noise—a critical parameter in portable devices such as cellphones.
“We’re very proud of the fact that for CAT3636, we managed to add a fourth mode of operation without using an additional capacitor. We did this by adding in a third switching phase to achieve 1.33x boost mode. Our patent-pending approach pretty much rewrites the rules for charge pump-based LED drivers,” Brown said.
The fourth mode of operation delivers a 10 percent efficiency improvement over the lifetime average efficiency of most batteries, “without any penalty in terms of cost, components and board space.” Its small 3-by-3mm, low-profile TQFN package makes it a viable alternative for today’s emerging, razor-thin portable devices.
“LEDs are one of the most power-consuming elements in phones today. So if we can provide a 10 percent improvement in efficiency to one of the most power-hungry elements of a portable device, that’s a big deal,” the Catalyst official enthused.
CAT3636 features six LED current sinks configured into three separate banks, with each bank containing two tightly regulated and matched output channels. The company’s flexible one-wire EZDim programming interface promises fully featured programmability and dimming control. The interface also further reduces pin count and interface connections while allowing flexible control of color LCD backlighting.
Asked about Catalyst’s plans and strategies in Asia, Brown said the company expects the region to be the dominant market for its new line of LED drivers. He added that Catalyst will be introducing lower-cost devices targeting the 3- and 4-LED markets in the coming months.

Statement of significance

The Gator is an example of outstanding Australian product design. It received the Australian Design Award of the Year, Powerhouse Museum Selection and a Silver IF Award for Eurobike in 2007. This high-powered LED bike light has both wide and spot beams. A handlebar mounted keypad allows the rider to control each lamp’s brightness and function. Powered by a rechargable lithium-ion battery, Gator burns at full brightness for four hours and as a beacon for a further 2000 hours. It can be attached to any diameter bike bar or frame without the use of tools. The judges of the 2007 Australian Design Awards commented on the Gator: ‘This is design born from passion, excellence and immense commitment to detail. It is emotive, versatile, functional and well finished with quality materials. It doesn’t follow trends or existing forms – it stands up on its own merits with purposeful visual branding.’ (Australian Design Awards Yearbook 2007)

Designed by Melbourne industrial design firm Catalyst Design Group, the Knog range of bicycle lights and accessories represent an innovative business approach by an Australian industrial design firm. Catalyst created Knog in 2002 as a unique cycling brand that was fun and design-oriented, but would also appeal to cycling commuters. By designing and manufacturing their own proprietary brand, Catalyst could ensure consistent work flow as business cycles varied in their contract work. In 2006-2007 sales revenue for the brand almost quadrupled, with a revenue of $3.2 million. By 2008 the company had more than 80 products selling in over 30 countries including lights, gloves, bags and bike luggage, and the firm spent 60 per cent of its time designing products for Knog.

The first dedicated Knog retail store opened in Melbourne’s Chapel St in 2008, reflecting the status of Knog as a fashion and lifestyle brand. The Knog lights also represent a wider trend of promoting design and lifestyle to create a new market for cycling products, as exemplified by designers such as Marc Newson and Ross Lovegrove designing for Danish bicycle company Biomega.

Designed by Catalyst Design Group and Knog Pty Ltd, Richmond, Melbourne, Vic, 2005-2006.
Made in China for Knog Pty Ltd, 2008.

This Gator bicycle lamp (model 605) contains three LEDs. There are two high-powered 3 watt lamps (wide and spot beams) and a 5mm beacon LED. The lamps are mounted inside a cast aluminium chassis encased in compression moulded silicon. Powered by a rechargable lithium-ion battery, the Gator burns at full brightness for four hours and will run the beacon LED for a further 2000. The unit is controlled from a handlebar mounted three-button keypad allowing the rider to individually control each lamp’s brightness and function. It can be attached to any diameter bike bar or frame without the use of tools.

The technical challenge to develop the Gator was to harness the power of high-powered LED lamps in a small, aesthetically pleasing package. The 12 month development process addressed issues of light, size, power, heat and mass manufacture.

In 2008 the Gator was available in three different models, with two or three LEDs, ranging in price from $240 to $450.

The 2008 Knog catalogue advertised the Gator 605 as a “megablastic hi powered LED lamp”. The quirky, slightly risque text continues, comparing the Gator to impotence medication commonly advertised by email : “Some advice from today’s spam: ‘all girls like the big guys’. This is according to Kristi Goins, who’s got some fantastic herbal meds to increase your wang size and ‘be full of energy and fill your partner with it!’ If only Kristi knew about the Gator 605 it’s got so much energy it fills everyone with ‘it’ for four long hours. Better still it only takes a flash to recharge before it can do it all again.”

KNOG products are designed and produced by Hugo Davidson, Mal McKechnie, Craig Stevens, Joelene Tee, Libby Christmas, Chris Bilanenko, Paul Daniel and Michelle Muller at Catalyst Design Group, Australia.

History notes

The Gator received the Australian Design Award of the Year, Powerhouse Museum Selection, and a Silver IF Award for Eurobike in 2007. A Gator was displayed in the Australian Design Awards exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum from July 2007- June 2008. This Gator was donated to the Museum’s collection as a complete example of the product and its packaging at the conclusion of the exhibition, it was not displayed or used. The handlebar and acrylic stand were used in the Australian Design Awards exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum to display a sample of the Gator.

Over 200 products were entered in the Australian Design Awards in 2007. The judging panel recommended 32 of these products receive an Australian Design Mark and of these, 15 products for an Australian Design Award. The products receiving the Australian Design Award were announced at a dinner and awards ceremony on 11th May 2007 at the National Gallery of Victoria.

According to the 2007 Australian Design Awards Yearbook: ‘to win the Australian Design Award of the Year is to receive the highest national achievement of design excellence available to the Australian design industry. The winner is considered to be of a world class calibre, over and above all other Australian Design Award recipients in the same year.’

The Knog range of bicycle products is designed by industrial design firm Catalyst Design Group in Melbourne.
Baba Budan is located on 359 Little Bourke Street. It is located in a bit narrow street and also there is no signboard outside the cafe.

The Auction Rooms is located in North Melbourne. Just few stops of 57 tram from the city area it’s a big café.

Interior of Mr Tulk is very modern and stylish specially the counter. It has a very good arrangement for outside seating as well.

Very small and clustered cafe. There is no outside seating arrangement, but it is clean. It has a unique style by hanging chairs from the roof.

It has a big hall that creates a smooth and pleasant atmosphere. It is clean. It has a live kitchen preparing breakfast and lunch. There is outdoor seating available in backyard.

Brother Baba Budan has a very rush of customers all the time and its business is faster than the other two coffee shops. Customers mostly order coffee with bakery product on side. At Auction Rooms and Mr. Tulk there are many other services that’s why the customers are taking some other products as well except coffee. Customers spend more time inside. Due to the central location in the busiest area of city Baba Bundan is easily accessible for the customers.

Tulk and Auction Rooms are slightly big cafes than Baba Bundan. Of the three shops, Auction Rooms has the largest hall followed by Mr Tulk. The staff of Baba Bundan has a very good product knowledge. Coffee at Brother Baba Budan coffee shop seems best of the three shops.

Brother Baba Budan has most extensive website and also has online store selling. Mr Tulk webpage is combinend with the website of state library and it has not enough information. And same with the Auction Rooms website it also has not much information about the products. Baba Budan has very good website and all the information about their product is sited on their website.

:COMPARISON OF THE BUSINESS REPORTS:

By comparing the analysis of all reports of three coffee shops and including the above mentioned parameters Brother Baba Budan coffee shop has the most business than the other coffee shops due to the standard of their product and service of their staff being provided and also the main reason of their business is the location of the shop which is in busiest and posh area of the city on Little Bourke Street. Inspite of it’s a bit high price it is attracting its customers. And it has a unique ceiling style which is never seen any where before.

Mr Tulk also has a good location on swanston street and good product but it is attracting its customers due to its other products as well like lunch and dinner, people are not only coming for the coffee here same is the The Auction Rooms that is located on a bit distance from the main city and they have live kicthen and the customers mostly give attention towards the lunch and dinner items not particularly the coffee, no doubt they have a good coffee too.
